Kimberly Tyre launched Family Benches based on a traumatic experience when her children were taken away from her in 2014. With firsthand experience of the child welfare system, she is a passionate advocate for parents at risk of losing their children to foster care.

With the motto ‘Respite Care, Not Foster Care,’ Family Benches is designed to be a safe space for single parents who need temporary peer-based support services, so that families never have to be separated by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) again.

Kimberly has 4 sons aged 16 to 27, and currently resides in Spanish Harlem, NYC
